The Drill Hall Ware.

Mass in Blue – Will Todd

Ware Choral Society’s foray into Jazz deemed a ‘spectacular success’!

We were so pleased with the reception on the day and later coverage in the local press around out Jazz concert. It was a change of direction for us but it seems to have paid off!

It was a hot day, but that suited the steamy atmosphere of the Drill Hall which was set up by dedicated members of the choir as a Jazz Café; complete with bar, lights with guests huddled around tables.

We started with the fresh and flowing Songs and Sonnets by Shearing and followed this with Will Todd’s mighty Mass in Blue -a fusion of choral music, liturgical harmony and pure blues originally commissioned in Hertfordshire. It was great to have it back in the county.

We were excited and awed to have renowned jazz musicians John Turville, Simon Allen, Ben Reynolds, James Owston as the band, with Barabara having a well earned break at the half way stage. We were also delighted and thrilled to have the acclaimed soloist Joanna Forbes L’Estrange join us for both pieces.

It really was a memorable evening and we wont forget our foray into the soulful world of Jazz. Watch this space for what we get up to next!
