Established in 1902, we are an amateur, SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) choir of about 100 non-auditioned members, with a range of musical abilities, though aspiring to professional standards.
We have appointed a new Musical Director, Harry Sever, to follow Julian Williamson, our previous conductor of 46 years. Harry will build on Julian’s successes and maintain some of the traditions of the choir, but also expand our repertoire and vocal skills in new and exciting ways. He hopes to involve more of the local community in our activities, which as well as concerts could include “Come and Sing” days. See Concert Calendar for provisional programme.
We have sung a variety of choral music including the major choral works but also newer works from composers such as Rutter, Lauridsen, and Chilcott. Professional soloists and orchestra accompany our concerts. Over recent years we have performed two concerts each year but now have plans to increase that to three.
Choir members sing at the Annual Lights of Love service organised by the Isabel Hospice, a charity we have been proud to support for many years, and at the Hanbury Manor Christmas Eve Celebrations.
The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 until 9:15 at the Riverside Hall in Ware.
Rehearsals begin for Mozart Mass in C minor on 30th March 2022.
